The familiar 220-minus-age formula is a rough population average, not a personal measurement, and individual maximum heart rates scatter around it by roughly ±10–12 beats per minute. This tool uses the Gulati equation for women, which research found predicts female maximum heart rate more accurately than the traditional formula. The only way to know your true max is a supervised maximal exercise test, so use the estimate to set training zones with a sensible margin, not as a hard ceiling.
