The midpoint is found by averaging the two x-coordinates and the two y-coordinates independently — a genuinely simple operation that nonetheless anchors a lot of geometry, from finding the center of a line segment to locating the circumcenter of a triangle. Because it's just an average of coordinates, it extends naturally to three dimensions and beyond. A neat consequence: the midpoint is always equidistant from both endpoints, sitting exactly halfway along the straight line joining them.
