The rule of thumb behind this tool — roughly two to three hours of independent study per credit hour each week — comes from how universities define a credit in the first place, and full-time students routinely underestimate the total it implies. A 15-credit load points to 30–45 study hours on top of class time, essentially a full-time job. Treating that number as a planning target, spread across the week, tends to work far better than cramming it into exam season.
