Frequency

Worth Knowing

Frequency counts cycles per second, measured in hertz, and spans an astonishing range — from a heartbeat near 1 Hz, through audible sound in the kilohertz, to radio and processors in the megahertz and gigahertz. Each thousandfold step gets its own prefix. A useful intuition: frequency and wavelength are inversely linked, so higher-frequency signals have shorter waves, which is why 5 GHz Wi-Fi carries more data but travels shorter distances and penetrates walls less well than 2.4 GHz.

How to Use

  1. Choose the unit you're converting from and the unit you want, from the two dropdowns above.
  2. Type a value into the input field — the converted result updates instantly.
  3. Swap the two units any time to flip the direction of the conversion.
