Temperature is the one conversion category here that isn't a simple multiplication, because Celsius and Fahrenheit don't share a zero point — 0°C is 32°F, not 0°F — so converting between them requires both a scale factor and an offset (°F = °C × 9/5 + 32), not just a single multiplier the way converting meters to feet does. Kelvin and Rankine, by contrast, are absolute scales that both start at true zero (absolute zero, where all thermal motion theoretically stops), which is why they're preferred in physics and engineering — a temperature ratio only makes physical sense on an absolute scale, so "twice as hot" is meaningful in Kelvin but not in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
