Volume

Worth Knowing

Volume hides two traps. First, it scales with the cube of length, so a container twice as wide in every dimension holds eight times as much. Second, the gallon is not one unit: a US gallon is about 3.79 liters while an imperial (UK) gallon is about 4.55, a 20% difference that quietly wrecks recipes and fuel-economy comparisons across the Atlantic. When precision matters, always confirm which gallon — or which fluid ounce — a figure refers to.

How to Use

  1. Choose the unit you're converting from and the unit you want, from the two dropdowns above.
  2. Type a value into the input field — the converted result updates instantly.
  3. Swap the two units any time to flip the direction of the conversion.
