About the Salary Calculator

The Salary Calculator gives you an instant answer from just a few inputs — annual salary. It runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you enter stay private and never touch a server, and the result recalculates the moment you change a value. It's free to use with no sign-up, no limits, and nothing to install.

Worth Knowing

The conversions here look mechanical but each carries an assumption. Dividing by 12 for a monthly figure is exact. Weekly and hourly are not: they depend on 52 weeks and, for full-time work, the 2,080-hour convention of 40 hours across 52 weeks. That standard year includes your paid holidays and vacation, so the implied hourly rate is what you are paid per hour on the clock, not per hour actually worked — if you work 50-hour weeks, your real hourly rate is meaningfully below the figure shown. A practical wrinkle for US employees is the pay schedule. Biweekly pay produces 26 cheques a year, semi-monthly produces 24, and the two are not the same thing. Under biweekly you get two months a year with three cheques, which is why a monthly budget built on "two paychecks a month" is quietly wrong twice a year in your favour. Everything here is gross. Federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, any state and local income tax, health premiums, and retirement contributions all come out before the money reaches you, and the gap between gross and net commonly runs 25% to 35% depending on your state and elections. Whether overtime applies at all depends on your FLSA classification: non-exempt employees are owed time-and-a-half beyond 40 hours in a week, while exempt salaried employees are not. And salary is only part of total compensation — an employer 401(k) match, health coverage, and equity can add a substantial fraction again on top.
